Toiminta varojen puuttuessa oli pientä ja kokoukset pidettiin yleensä, Työväenyhdistyksen tai Tuotannon tiloissa. Ensimmäiset kokoukset pidettiin myös vähän salassa työnantajilta, koska työnantaja ei katsonut aina suopeasti ammattiyhdistystoimintaa.
Alussa luottamusmiehet toimivat ainoastaan suuremmissa ravintoloissa. Luottamusmiehet keräsivät jäsenmaksuja työpaikoilla, joten yhteydet jäseniin olivat tuolloin kohtalaisen läheiset.
Osaston toiminta ja ihmiset olivat toimintaintoa täynnä vaikka rahat olivat aina vähissä.
Mainittakoon, että kansan rakastama näyttelijä Eero Roine sodasta palattuaan toi muassaan rästiin jääneitä jäsenmaksuja 2000 markkaa. Se oli suurenmoinen apu osaston toiminnalle.
Ensimmäiset toimitilansa Tampereen osasto sai SAK:n piiritoimiston tiloista.
Vuoden 1960 kesäpäivät toi Tampereelle sen verran tuloja, että Aleksanterinkadulta ostettiin huoneisto. Osastoon liittyi vuonna 1971 Vahtimestariosasto 68 ry. Vuonna 1977 osasto 005 pääsi muuttamaan nykyiseen toimitilaansa Hatanpään valtatie 4 B 36. Yhdistyminen Palvelualojen ammattiliittoon tapahtui vuonna 2000.
Entä tarjoilijan työ muutama vuosikymmen taaksepäin?
Kahdeksan tunnin työaikoja ei 30-40 luvulla vielä tunnettu, työpäivät olivat pitkiä ja raskaita. Työ sopimus tehtiin suullisesti ja ajateltiin että työ tekijäänsä opettaa. Kouluttamattomuus ja työsopimusten puute toi muassaan monia ongelmia joihin yritettiin etsiä ratkaisua.
Vapaa päiviä ei tunnettu ja ruokailuoikeus työpaikalla oli vaikeasti saavutettava etu.
Ruuan määrää tarkkailtiin, samalla puhuttiin ymmärtäväisistä keittiö henkilökunnasta jotka säästivät tähteiksi jääneet ruoka-annokset ns. lintulaudalle josta tarjoilijat saattoivat käydä sieppaamassa palan itselleen.
Perustyö ammattiyhdistys toiminnassa on edelleen sama eli työehtosopimuksen ehtojen parantaminen sekä jäsenhankinta. Parempien työolojen saavuttamiseksi on työtä vielä paljon. Yhteiskunnan ja työelämän uudet haasteet ei anna meidän jäädä paikoilleen ; me teemme tällä hetkelläkin tulevaisuuden historiaa.
The history of our department begins on November 18, 1936, when 4 people gathered after a
working day. With their presence they confirmed the establishment of the fifth local association of the Finnish Hotel and Restaurant Staff Association. Väinö Rajala was elected as chairman of Tampere stand No: 005.
In the absence of funds, activities were small, and meetings was usually held on the premises of the Workers' Association or Production. The first meetings where kept a little secret also from the employers, as the employer did not always view trade union activities favorably.
At the beginning, shop stewards only worked in larger restaurants. The shop stewards collected dues in the workplace, so contacts with members were moderately close at the time.
Even though the money was always scarce, the department and the people were full of eagerness to participate and organize activities for members.
It should be mentioned, that the popular finish actor Eero Roine, after returning from the
war, brought considerable amount of money in membership fees. It was a great help to the department.
The Tampere branch received its first premises from the SAK's district office.
The summer days of 1960 brought enough income for Department 005 to buying an apartment on
Aleksanterinkatu.
In 1971, the janitor's department 68 joined the department.
In 1977, Department 005 was able to relocate its current premises to Hatanpäänvaltatie 4 B 36.
Joining the Trade Union for Services took place in 2000. Today, the name of our department
is the Tampere Department of the PAM Hotel and Restaurant Industry and the department number is 705.
In 2009, Pirkanmaan Esimiehet ry 131 joined our department. The number of members has grown over the years and in 2011 there were 3755 members.
What was it like to work as a waitress a few decades back?
Eight-hour working hours were not yet be known in the 1930s and 1940s, and working days were long and heavy. The work contract was made orally, and it was thought that the work would teach the worker. Lack of education and employment contracts, among other things, caused problems for workers. Solutions to the problems were needed.
Free days was not known and the right to eat in the workplace was a hard-to-achieve advantage.
The amount of food was monitored, but through fellowship between kitchen staff, who saved the leftover portions of food, and the waiters helped the situation.
The basic work in the trade union's operations is still the same, improving the terms of the collective agreement and acquiring members. There is still a lot of work to be done to achieve better working conditions. The new challenges for society and working life will not allow us to stay put; we are still making future history.
